Recovery Support at Provive Wellness
Recovery Support at Provive Wellness
Clinical treatment — no matter how good — ends. The evidence-based therapy, the structured schedule, the daily clinical contact: these are the intensive phase of recovery, not the whole of it. What sustains long-term sobriety after treatment ends is not primarily a therapy modality. It is connection. Community. The presence of other people who understand the specific gravity of this thing and are committed to living differently. That is what recovery support is, and that is why Provive Wellness takes it seriously as a clinical priority — not an afterthought, but a foundational pillar of lasting recovery.
Research on addiction recovery is consistent on this point: the single strongest predictor of long-term sobriety is social support from a community of people in recovery. For many people, the transition out of PHP or IOP — the loss of daily structure, the return to environments that may not support recovery — is the most dangerous moment of the entire recovery journey. Peer support programs exist specifically to span that gap.
All recovery support programs at Provive are available to clients in our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at our Wayne, PA and Scranton, PA locations, and extend beyond the formal treatment period into long-term community.
Why peer recovery support is clinically essential:
- Social connection directly reduces relapse risk — people embedded in recovery communities have substantially better long-term outcomes
- Peer relationships provide accountability that clinical relationships cannot — a sponsor, a group, a community of people who will call when you go quiet
- Recovery programs build structure — the meetings, the steps, the service commitments that fill the hours previously occupied by addiction
- The peer who has been through it carries a specific credibility — not clinical authority but lived authority, which often reaches further
- Long-term communities address the isolation that fuels relapse — recovery is not a solo project
The research supporting peer recovery programs is extensive and spans multiple models. A 2020 meta-analysis in Addiction found that participation in 12-Step programs was associated with higher rates of continuous abstinence and lower healthcare costs at 12-month follow-up. SMART Recovery has been studied in numerous randomized controlled trials, with consistent evidence of effectiveness for alcohol use disorder and broad substance use disorders. Celebrate Recovery has been examined across faith-based recovery contexts with evidence of particularly strong outcomes in participants with religious or spiritual orientation. Across all models, the active ingredient is consistently the same: community membership, accountability, and a sense of purpose that outlasts the treatment episode itself.
Provive Wellness does not prescribe a single pathway to peer recovery. We recognize that different people find connection in different rooms — that a secular framework resonates with some and a spiritual one with others. We offer a range of peer support options so that each client can find the community that they will actually return to.
Recovery support programs offered at Provive Wellness:
- 12-Step Support — integration with Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and related 12-Step fellowships, with clinical support for working the steps and building a sponsor relationship
- SMART Recovery — a science-based, self-empowerment alternative to 12-Step, grounded in cognitive-behavioral tools and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy
- Celebrate Recovery — a Christ-centered 12-Step program for those whose recovery is grounded in faith, offering peer community and biblical principles
- Rooted in Recovery — Provive’s own peer community group, providing connection, accountability, and recovery support outside of formal clinical sessions
Recovery support resources are integrated into treatment planning at Provive from the beginning — not introduced at the moment of discharge as an afterthought. Your clinical team will help you identify which recovery community is the best fit for your values, your history, and your goals, and support you in building real connections before you leave the intensive phase of treatment. The transition out of PHP or IOP should not be a cliff — it should be a bridge into a community that will hold you.
