Specialty Programs at Provive Wellness

Standard addiction and mental health treatment is built around what most people have in common. But some people come to treatment carrying experiences that are not standard — a career that required them to absorb trauma as part of the job description, an identity that has made them a target of discrimination in clinical settings, a set of relationship dynamics that a mixed-group environment cannot fully address. For those people, a general program is not enough. Not because they are more difficult to treat, but because the treatment needs to meet them where they actually are.

Provive Wellness offers a suite of specialty programs designed for populations whose recovery needs call for something more specific — a group where everyone in the room understands your world, a clinical framework built around your actual history, a space where you do not have to explain yourself before the real work begins.

All specialty programs are integrated into our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at our Wayne, PA and Scranton, PA locations. They do not replace the core clinical program — they deepen it, by ensuring that the clinical work is grounded in the specific realities of your life.

What makes a specialty program different from standard group therapy:

The research on population-specific treatment is consistent: when people receive care that is tailored to their cultural context, their occupational identity, or their lived experience of marginalization, they engage more deeply, stay in treatment longer, and report better outcomes. A 2019 review published in Psychiatric Services found that culturally adapted interventions produced significantly stronger treatment outcomes than unadapted versions of the same treatments across diverse populations. Research on first responder-specific treatment programs documents higher rates of treatment engagement and peer trust when first responders are grouped with others who share their occupational culture. Studies on LGBTQ+-affirming care show substantially higher retention and lower dropout rates when treatment environments actively affirm rather than merely tolerate LGBTQ+ identities. The common thread across all of this research is simple: people engage more fully in treatment when they feel genuinely seen.

The specialty programs at Provive Wellness exist because we believe that being genuinely seen is not a luxury in treatment — it is a clinical necessity. Recovery requires honesty, and honesty requires safety. Safety requires knowing that the people around you — clinicians and peers alike — understand enough of your world to hold what you share without flinching.

Specialty programs offered at Provive Wellness:

Specialty programs at Provive are available to clients across PHP and IOP at both Wayne and Scranton locations. Participation is coordinated with your primary treatment team, who will help identify which programs best support your individual clinical goals. Insurance coverage follows the PHP and IOP benefit — call (610) 947-0800 for a confidential benefits verification at no cost.

Recovery is not a process that happens in isolation from who you are. The more clearly your treatment reflects your actual life — your culture, your history, your identity, your occupation — the more fully you can engage with it. That is what specialty programming makes possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Specialty programs are offered as part of your overall treatment schedule — your clinical team will work with you to identify which groups are the best fit. Participation is based on clinical appropriateness and your own goals, not a requirement applied to everyone.
Yes. Specialty groups complement the core clinical program — they do not replace individual therapy, evidence-based groups, or holistic programming. Your schedule will include a mix of standard and specialty programming based on your treatment plan.
Many people do — a veteran who is also LGBTQ+, for instance, or a first responder who also benefits from a men’s group. Your clinical team will help you prioritize which specialty groups serve your goals most effectively within your schedule.
Yes. All clinical groups at Provive Wellness operate under standard confidentiality protections. Specialty groups are often experienced as particularly confidential environments precisely because everyone in the room shares a similar context and understands the stakes of what is being disclosed.
