Rooted in Recovery at Provive Wellness

Rooted in Recovery: Provive’s Peer Community Group

Recovery requires community. This is one of the most consistent findings in the research on addiction — that clinical treatment alone, however excellent, is not sufficient to sustain long-term sobriety. What holds recovery in place over time is connection: other people who understand the weight of what you are carrying, who show up consistently, who make it harder to disappear quietly when things get difficult. Rooted in Recovery is Provive Wellness’s own peer community group — built specifically to be that connection for our clients, during treatment and beyond.

Rooted in Recovery is not a clinical group facilitated by a therapist. It is a peer community: people in recovery supporting one another, in a space created and sustained by Provive Wellness to ensure that every client has access to ongoing connection regardless of which external recovery program resonates with them. It runs multiple times per week and gives clients a consistent community to return to as they progress through and beyond treatment.

Rooted in Recovery is available to all clients in our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at our Wayne, PA and Scranton, PA locations, and extends beyond the formal treatment period into long-term community membership.

What Rooted in Recovery provides:

The research on peer recovery support within treatment settings is consistent: peer community that begins during the treatment episode produces better long-term outcomes than community connections made only after discharge. A study in Psychiatric Services found that clients with strong peer connections formed during treatment had significantly lower relapse rates at 12-month follow-up compared to those whose peer community was limited to clinical contact. SAMHSA’s comprehensive review of peer support services concludes that peer recovery support is associated with reduced substance use, increased treatment engagement, and improved quality of life outcomes.

What Rooted in Recovery offers that external peer programs cannot is continuity with the specific community of Provive. The people in the room are people who have been through Provive’s program — who understand the specific culture of the clinical work, who have shared the experience of breakthrough and difficulty in the same treatment setting. This shared context creates an immediate depth of connection that a stranger at an outside meeting cannot yet have.

What makes Rooted in Recovery unique:

Rooted in Recovery also serves a function that is easy to underestimate: it makes the alumni community visible and active. When someone who completed Provive’s program six months ago is sitting alongside someone who just entered PHP, something happens that no therapist can manufacture — the living proof that the work is possible, embodied in a peer who was exactly where you are and is not there anymore. That evidence is among the most powerful clinical resources available.
