Use Treatment for Ages 14–17

Adolescent IOP Overview:

The Co-Occurring Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Provive Wellness is a structured, evidence-based treatment track designed specifically for teens ages 14–17 who are navigating mental health challenges, substance use concerns, or both. Our program provides the clinical intensity that adolescents need while allowing them to remain at home, stay connected to school, and continue participating in daily life.

Adolescence is a critical period of brain development, emotional growth, and identity formation. When mental health symptoms or substance use begin to interfere with a teen’s functioning — at school, at home, or in relationships — early and specialized intervention makes a measurable difference. Provive’s adolescent IOP bridges the gap between weekly outpatient therapy and inpatient care, offering a higher level of structured support without requiring residential placement.

Our clinical team brings deep expertise in adolescent-specific treatment, combining trauma-informed care, family engagement, and a multi-modal therapeutic approach to help teens build lasting coping skills, emotional stability, and the resilience to thrive beyond treatment.

Is This Program Right for My Teen?

Every parent’s situation is different, but there are common signs that a teen may need more support than weekly therapy can provide.

This program may be the right fit if your teen is:

If several of these sound familiar, you don’t have to figure out the next step alone. Our clinical team is available to answer your questions, walk you through the intake process, and help you determine whether our adolescent IOP is the right level of care for your teen.

What We Treat:

Our adolescent IOP is designed to treat co-occurring concerns, including:

Mental Health Disorders:

Substance Use Issues:

Many of these conditions are closely connected — anxiety can fuel substance use, trauma can manifest as behavioral disruption, and depression can compound every other challenge a teen faces. That’s why Provive’s program uses an integrated model that treats mental health and substance use together rather than in isolation. Our clinicians understand how these issues present differently in adolescents than in adults, and every aspect of our program is built around the developmental, social, and academic realities of teenage life.

How It Works:

Our program uses an integrated, trauma-informed clinical model and includes:

Frequently Asked Questions

An adolescent IOP is a structured mental health and substance use treatment program that provides more clinical support than weekly therapy without requiring your teen to live in a facility. At Provive Wellness, teens attend group and individual therapy sessions several evenings per week while continuing to live at home and attend school.

Our adolescent IOP serves teens ages 14–17.

The program runs Monday through Friday, 5:00–8:30 PM, making it designed to work around school schedules.

Each session follows a consistent structure: opening/meditation/mindfulness grounding (5:00–5:30 PM), check-in (5:30–6:00 PM), a short break, group processing and psychoeducation (6:15–7:15 PM), another brief break, and ancillary services and conclusion (7:30–8:30 PM).

Inpatient and residential programs require teens to live at the facility full-time. IOP provides a high level of clinical care while allowing your teen to remain at home, stay in school, and maintain family connections — which research shows is beneficial for adolescent recovery.

No. Our program treats teens with mental health challenges, substance use concerns, or both. Many of our clients have co-occurring conditions, but a dual diagnosis is not required for admission.

Yes. Family involvement is a core part of treatment. We provide weekly caregiver communication and coaching, family education, and family therapy as clinically indicated. Healing works best when the whole family is engaged.

Yes. We work with most major insurance plans. Contact our team and we’ll verify your teen’s benefits before the first appointment.

IOP is appropriate when a teen’s symptoms are significantly affecting their school performance, relationships, or daily functioning, and when weekly therapy alone isn’t providing enough support — but inpatient care isn’t necessary. If you’re unsure, call us and our team will help you determine the right level of care.

Most teens complete the program in 6–10 weeks, though length is individualized based on clinical progress and need.

We work with families on a step-down plan before discharge, which may include transitioning to standard outpatient therapy, continued psychiatric support, or referrals to community resources to sustain progress after IOP.

You can call us directly, fill out our online form, or have a school counselor, pediatrician, or therapist submit a referral. We’ll guide you through the intake process from there.

Reaching out for your teen is one of the hardest and most important steps you can take. If you have questions about whether this program is the right fit, we’re here to help you figure that out — no pressure, no commitment.
